ADVENT DEVOTIONALS

I have purchased a limited supply of the UCC Advent Devotional Booklets “The Mess in the Messiah”.  Each day includes a scripture reading, reflection and prayer, beginning with the first Sunday of Advent (December 1) through the celebration of Epiphany (January 6).  The booklet is $5.00 and will be available for purchase after worship each Sunday leading up to Advent until sold out. Looking forward to a blessed Advent season at WHCC. Questions? Contact Kathi McIlvain at whccposition5@gmail.com

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TEAM

Our church is growing! So it is with great excitement we would like to introduce the CET: Community Engagement Team! This committee’s sole job is to help visitors and newcomers feel at home. One way to do so, in addition to welcoming them from the podium and coffee hour, is to have monthly gatherings right after church. Not only will this help us get to know our visitors, but it will give them a chance to learn about our history, mission, and hopes for the future. For more information, talk to Nita Standke, Andrea Frazer Paventi or Mark Hostetler.

UPDATING DIRECTORY INFORMATION

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS (NOT TIME-SENSITIVE)

SUBSCRIBE TO THE WHCC’S YOUTUBE CHANNEL

If you would like to find a full listing of all the video experiences WHCC provides on the Internet, we would encourage you to subscribe to the church’s YouTube channel. You can subscribe here: WHCC YOUTUBE CHANNEL. When you subscribe, don’t forget to click on the bell to the right of the “Subscribe” button. This will notify you each time a new music video, sermon, or special event is posted.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR EMAIL SCAMS

Several folks from church received an email allegedly from WHCC members asking them to send gift cards. The email address used in the scam was just a letter or two off from the official email account. Requests such as these are scams and sadly happen all too frequently.

If you ever get a similar request via email for financial assistance from any church participant, DO NOT send any money until you have verified the request is legitimate by either speaking with the person directly on the telephone or contacting the church office to see if the request is real. Be sure to check the email by hovering over the sender’s name We don’t want anyone to fall victim to such scams.

Don’t reply to spam messages! If you see an email from someone you don’t know or anything about the email looks sketchy, delete it. Responding to an email shows the scammer your address is active and increases the chances of getting similar scam emails.

SUNDAY GREETERS NEEDED

Volunteering as a Greeter on Sunday morning provides a fun opportunity to welcome new & old friends to the church service. If you would like to volunteer, sign-up sheets are located in the Narthex. Questions? contact Jeanne Mowers at jeannemowers@sbcglobal.net.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR READY TO CONNECT YOU

There are many ways you can volunteer to serve at WHCC.  Some of these opportunities include (1) serving as a lay reader during worship; (2) serving as greeter on Sunday morning; (3) providing coffee hour refreshments following worship; (4) providing flowers for the altar on Sunday morning; (5) serving on the Green Team that beautifies the church campus; and (6) helping with memorial services.  If you’d like to get involved, just contact WHCC’s volunteer coordinator Jeanne Mowers at jeannemowers@sbcglobal.net and she will get you signed up to serve.

WHCC CHILDREN’S LIBRARY

Did you know the CYM is building a new children’s lending library? We are looking for monetary donations to build our catalog of new, diverse, and inclusive books. You can donate HERE and all of your contributions will be used to purchase books from local, black-owned bookstores. If you would like to donate a physical book we ask that it be new and there will be a basket for collection in the narthex. A big Thank you to everyone who has donated books thus far!

EMPLOYER DONATION MATCHING

Many companies offer a matching gifts program, as a way to help and show support for their employees. Please consider submitting a request to your employers using our UCC tax ID 13-1957221 with your donation amount. If we qualify, the company will send a check for the same amount to WHCC.

EASY WAY TO INCREASE YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO WHCC WITHOUT COSTING YOU A PENNY!

Did you know that WHCC is one of the Community Rewards Partners with Ralph’s and Food4Less? What does that mean? It means if you register your Ralph’s card online, a percentage of your spending at the store can go to benefit WHCC. All you have to do is go to the store’s website (Ralph’s), create an online account and/or sign in, and then click on “Community Rewards”. Then select WHCC from the list of eligible charities. The church’s organization number is RW127. Once you have done that, Ralph’s will track your spending and send WHCC a check each quarter that covers the proceeds from all those from the church who’ve signed up for the program. Make sure you look carefully when you select the charitable organization, however. The church’s Nursery School is also a Community Rewards Partner. Our accounts are entirely separate. If you choose Woodland Hills Community Church Nursery School – and not Woodland Hills Community Church – the church will not receive any of the proceeds.
